NEW SEATS AT NOTRE DAME BY IONNA VAUTRIN

French designer Ionna Vautrin has created the new seating for the restored Notre-Dame de Paris: a family of oak chairs, benches and prie-Dieu that blend contemporary design with the cathedral’s historic spirit. Her chairs feature soft curves, a lowered backrest for comfort, and a lightweight, stackable structure — a balance of noble simplicity, functionality and quiet elegance. Crafted in solid oak by Bosc, each piece echoes the cathedral’s material heritage while offering a warm, human scale within an awe-inspiring space. Vautrin’s work brings a modern yet respectful touch to one of the world’s most symbolic monuments, showing how thoughtful design can honour tradition while shaping the future.

A SHORT INTERVIEW WITH LAURA ITKONEN

I AM...
Laura Itkonen
, an artist working passionately in the field of ceramics. I work and live in Helsinki, Finland.

I DO...
Mostly art but also collectible objects that are inbetween art and design. My style is playful, experimental and abstract figurative.

CHILDHOOD TO ME IS...
Time of freedom. The mind is still very abstract, the imagination is flying and life is all about adventures. I wish everyone's childhood could be like that. And I wish everyone would carry these things with them into
adulthood. One should never stop playing.

IMAGINATION TO ME IS...
An escape from the real world. It’s fantasies and stories that can be anything. There’s no limitations, no boundaries and no rules, just a free spirit experimenting and playing.

MY FAVOURITE OBJECT IS...
Handmade and unique. I know who made it and how much love went into making it. Support your locals and small businesses

MY FAVOURITE COLOUR IS...
Depends a lot on where it's used. I use a lot of colors in my work and I don't know if I'd even dare to say I don't like some certain colour. But in general, I’d say that different shades of green often please me.
