Installed on a hilltop in Capalbio Scalo, Tuscany, La dodicesima altalena (The Twelfth Swing) is a monumental circular structure — 15 meters wide — by Francesco Arena holding twelve bronze swings suspended by chains. One swing defies gravity, pointing skyward. On each seat is engraved a quote — from Dostoevsky, T.S. Eliot, Kerouac, Wittgenstein, Heidegger, and others. Eleven phrases affirm meaning, belief, or thought. The twelfth, on the inverted swing, questions them all. This sculptural installation invites reflection on truth, perception, and contradiction, where even the laws of physics bend to artistic inquiry.
